Spiderman Party!

P1040181

Yesterday we had the final episode of this year’s birthday bash… the boy-party, again the theme was Spiderman, as you can see in the background with all the Spiderman items on the dinner table… Once again, Tobias was the center of attention, as you can see. Here we are playing a game determining who gets to give Tobias a present… We played some more games, my favorite being “pass the parcel”, a game we picked up at last year’s Halloween party. We had some lunch and of course a Spiderman cake, this time with a spider-web on it (made out of dropveter (licorice-lace?)). We finished the party watching a few Spiderman episodes from Tobias’ new DVD in our makeshift movie theater living room Glimlach. It was a successful party because Tobias liked it a lot, and from what I heard, the others did too!

Once again… Tobias is now officially 6!

School Party

…And of course Tobias celebrated his birthday at school. Interestingly, he was not the sole center of attention, for there was another birthday… A girl that only started school this school-year. But, from what I heard everyone liked Tobias’ treat a lot (we made cupcakes). Lisa was lucky enough to be able to be there to take this picture. Hopefully I’ll get to do that someday too… although I am not sure if parental presence is going to be appreciated after this year… We’ll see.

Oh, what was interesting is that the night before he turned six he took a birthday suitcase home. There were some birthday related items in there such as a birthday-game, a birthday-shirt, a birthday-stuffed animal, and…. a present! It was a little toy car.

My boy, my little boy, my sweet little boy, my cute sweet little boy, my lovely cute sweet little boy, my cuddly lovely cute sweet little boy, my 6-year-old cuddly lovely cute sweet little boy…… He is 6!

I find it so hard to believe, but it’s true, and we’ve been celebrating it for a week! Well, three days really or should I say two days, a night and a morning… This picture was taken on party number 1, last Saturday. We had family and friends over. It was the “adult” party so to speak, although it seemed like we had a house full of kids… This year’s theme was Spiderman, hence the suit, and the cake. The candy on there are Spiderman items… and there was a little Spiderman on there as well. We also had lots of Spiderman decorations and Spiderman cups, napkins and such, courtesy of Nonny (Thanks!).

Both Sinterklaas and Santa had already spoiled Tobias stiff, but hey, you only turn six once, so there we even more gifts! As I wrote before (I think…) we had bought him a bike, but we did not want to come to the party empty handed (Glimlach), so we bought him a stamp box as well. Lorelei gave him a Spiderman DVD (the original 1967 cartoon series, episode 1-6). Nonny had gotten him a roaring and moving dinosaur, Aunt Shelli a track suit, Opa and Oma a big  Lego’s knight castle, but there were many more presents. I think we all enjoyed the party a lot. I know I did! But, like I said, I can’t believe my boy is 6!

I’ll post some more birthday pictures…. so, to be continued…

Ice Skating

P1040037

Every year around Christmas time there is an ice skating rink on the Gouda Market square. It is there right now, and as a matter of fact Tobias and I went skating today. We had a really nice time, because the sun was out and everything. This picture was taken last week though. We went skating and Lisa, Shelli and Lorelei came into town for Lisa’s birthday lunch and watched us for a little bit. Unfortunately Tobias had fallen pretty badly that time, on his face… He bit his lip and tongue and it was a bloody mess in the most literal sense of the word… So, after that I had to hold his hand again, like in this picture and when we went skating today. He is getting better though, going faster, better able to anticipate, better able to adjust and all that. I hope to go again sometime this coming week or maybe next weekend. It is a lot of fun for both me and Tobias!

(Loads of) Christmas Gifts

P1040010

Tobias must have done something right last year, because judging from the amount of gifts he got…. well, there were just a whole lot of gifts under our tree. This picture kind of gives you an idea because you can see the amount of debris after unwrapping all of them…

Tobias got lots of Playmobil, some Legos, games, clothes, boots, Mr. Squiggles (a toy hamster…). We started playing with most of it on that day. The hit of the day must have been the Playmobil stuff… we played with that for hours! And then there is Mr. Squiggles who gets to sleep in Tobias’ bed these days… Oh, and his Lightning McQueen slippers that he loves to wear.

It was nice, and although I think Tobias got spoiled by Santa (Glimlach), I also think that he had a great day and some lovely toys! Thanks Santa!!!

Note: Notice Tobias’ Christmas shirt that Aunt Shelli gave him: “To Christmas… And Beyond!” Glimlach.

School Christmas Dinner

P1030909

At Tobias’ school they have a Christmas Dinner. He had that last year, but I was not there, because I had my work Christmas Dinner that night. This year I was there to enjoy (and document Glimlach). What they do is, they walk into town with “candles” (lights in a decorated coke bottle) and go to the market square. There they stand by the super-tall Christmas tree and sing songs. Then they walk back to school and have dinner in their nicely decorated classroom. Dinner buffet with all sorts of yummy kid stuff made by the parents (and kids, in our case anyway…).

The whole event takes about two hours, which gave Lisa, Lorelei and me just enough time to enjoy a nice dinner in town…
